Life of an Underwriter: Charlotte Wint

Charlotte Wint joined Aqueous in August 2022 as an Underwriting Assistant and has since stepped into the role of Professional Indemnity Underwriter. With a strong foundation in underwriting support and a growing enthusiasm for the industry, she’s quickly made her mark as a valuable member of the team. With nearly two years of experience, Charlotte has already shown a strong ability to adapt, learn quickly, and thrive in a collaborative environment. Since joining Aqueous, she’s embraced the challenge of taking on her own underwriting portfolio and is enjoying the buzz of a fast-paced, digitally focused team.

Stepping into underwriting

My insurance journey started in 2022 when I joined the industry in a support role at Aqueous. That experience gave me a solid foundation, learning the ropes, understanding the processes, and seeing firsthand how underwriters operate. Over time, I realised that underwriting was something I really wanted to pursue myself. I enjoyed the mix of problem-solving, relationship building, and the pace of the work.

Joining Aqueous was a big step forward. Moving into a true underwriting role and managing my own cases has been a brilliant challenge. There’s a lot to learn, but I’ve been surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

Learning in a fast-paced environment

One of the things I love most about working here is the energy. It’s a fast-paced environment, but also one where everyone is approachable, open, and willing to help. I’ve had great support from the team, especially as I transitioned into underwriting full-time. There’s a lot of collaboration, whether it’s bouncing around tricky cases or refining how we trade with brokers, it’s a place where your input matters.

The culture here really pushes you to think on your feet and keep growing, and I’ve found that incredibly motivating.

Digital-first, but always people-focused

We’re definitely a digital-first business, and that’s one of the things that sets Aqueous apart. Our e-trade platform is intuitive and fast, which means we can deliver quotes in minutes. But even with all that tech, it’s still about people at the end of the day. The relationships we build with brokers are at the core of what we do.

Whether it’s a quick chat to clarify a risk or working together to find the best outcome for a client, we’re not just hitting buttons, we’re trading. That human element really matters, and it’s something Aqueous gets right.

Outside the office

When I’m not underwriting, I’m usually spending time with family and friends or planning my next trip away. Travel is a big passion of mine, there’s something exciting about exploring new places and getting a break from the everyday. I also love a good book and, if I’m honest, I’ll take any excuse to find a sunny spot and just unwind for a bit.

Looking ahead

It’s been a great start to my time at Aqueous, and I’m excited about what’s next. There’s so much happening in the business, from expanding our digital capabilities to bringing in new products. I’m looking forward to continuing to build my underwriting skills, growing my portfolio, and being part of a team that’s genuinely making a mark in the industry.
